Chowdafest is three months away, but the competition is going strong for the last month of ChowdaQuest to determine who will compete in the last open 12 spots in February!
Event Director Jim Keenan reports that newcomers to the competition such as The Spread (Norwalk), Bistro 7 (Wilton), Parallel Post (Trumbull), Post 154 (Westport) and Guvnor’s (Norwalk) are leading in the ChowdaQuest polls so far along with veteran competitors The Ginger Man (SoNo/Greenwich) and The Restaurant at Rowayton. “I’m excited to see how the voting shakes out, ” said Keenan. “There’s a lot of culinary talent in CT and it’s great to see veteran and rookie competitors alike really get into it. I think some new restaurants will definitely break into the competition.”
At this point in time ChowdaQuest has over 70 restaurants from Mystic to Greenwich competing to earn a spot in the 2014 Chowdafest. What’s Chowdafest? Chowdafest is the annual fundraiser for the CT Food Bank and “the premier culinary competition in CT and second largest such event in all of New England.” Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids, ages 6-12. When you buy a ticket YOU get to be the judge and vote for your favorite chowders, soups, and bisques made my 28 Connecticut restaurants and chefs.
ChowdaQuest is a new prequalifying competition this year held between now and Thanksgiving. With only 28 spots each year for competitors in Chowdafest, only 12 are up for grabs with the other slots reserved for restaurants who finished in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each of the four categories in last year’s Chowdafest along with four slots being held for “captain’s picks” by the Chowdafest board. ChowdaQuest is being sponsored by Sierra Nevada beer, the official craft beer of Chowdafest 2014.
