I was born on a day that barely exists; once every four years I can celebrate my birthday. I cherish birthdays and do not understand people who do not. I’ve always had the challenge of when and how to celebrate and the older I become the more I make sure I enjoy birthdays, even during the years when I don’t really have a birthday.
A few years back, on a non-leap year birthday, a friend of mine wished me a very merry unbirthday. How BRILLIANT. Instantly the Alice in Wonderland reference, something I had long ago forgotten, was the perfect solution.
I now call my surrogate birthday “my unbirthday birthday” and every year I celebrate with cake or a cupcake. After a birthday lunch, I turned to my husband and said, “I’d like a cupcake.” And I knew where to go for a perfect cupcake – Taste & See Gourmet Cupcakes of Milford! We found the adorable little seaside cupcake shop last summer after our first visit to Walnut Beach Creamery next door (read more here).
I can’t wait to write a full cupcake post, but for now here’s a teaser.
We couldn’t decide, so we picked out four flavors to try and share: Cookies n’ Creme, Carrot Cake, Salted Caramel, and Blueberry Crumb. These cupcakes are amazing and I can’t wait to go back! And hey, technically everyday is an unbirthday birthday if we follow the Mad Hatter’s logic…so any day is perfect for a cupcake to celebrate whatever you’d like!
