Looking for a whale of a brunch? Sign of the Whale has you covered.

Yes, yes, pun intended!

Are you looking for a brunch that will help you keep the party going from Saturday night?

Are you tired of quiet Sunday brunches?

If so, then the Sunday brunch at Sign of the Whale in Stamford is for you!

Located on Stamford’s up and coming Harbor Point (also home to Paloma and World of Beer), Sign of the Whale is home to a large rooftop bar for 300 people, a newly launched seafood menu featuring a raw bar, and their “over the top” Sunday Brunch.

How over the top? Well, we started with breakfast shots (Jameson and butterscotch schnapps with an orange juice chaser) and then moved on to cocktails as big as my head!

These exceptionally large cocktails are called Tidal Waves in honor of those “exceptionally large waves”!

We tried The Blue Whale (vodka, coconut rum, blue Curaçao, pineapple juice, Sprite), the Gummy Bear Grog (cherry vodka, peach schnapps, pineapple juice, Sprite), and the Watermelon Wash (Smirnoff watermelon vodka, watermelon schnapps, Sprite, cranberry juice). All three are equally big in flavor as they are in size and the popsicles are a fun added touch!

Once cocktails started flowing it was time for some food and Sign of the Whale does not disappoint. We started off with a Breakfast Pizza and the Crispy Calamari. The Breakfast Pizza, made with bacon, sausage, egg, hash browns, cheddar, and spicy aioli, is surprisingly light which I was pleasantly surprised by; I had assumed it would be heavy with so many ingredients on it, but it was quite the opposite. The Crispy Calamari is cooked perfectly and served with a spicy remoulade; it was quite a big hit with our table.

Next up – Crispy Brussel Sprouts and Ahi Tuna.

Cooked with smoked bacon and served in a sriracha home-ginger soy sauce, the Crispy Brussel Sprouts are one of my favorites on the menu. I usually enjoy Brussel sprouts with bacon, however the unexpected honey-ginger soy sriracha offers a slightly sweet glaze on the Brussels sprouts which balances well with the saltiness of the bacon.

The Ahi Tuna appetizer served up with an avocado crema and fried wonton chips is fresh and flavorful especially with a soy, ginger, and yuzu (a citrus fruit often used in Japanese cuisine) aioli.

From the Soups and Salads portion of the menu we shared a Chopped Kale Salad. Kale fans, this menu item is for you! Topped with oranges, wonton crisps, avocado, fennel, cucumber, and a toasted sesame vinaigrette, this salad is large in size (you could share this one) and flavor.

Brunch is best with a group of friends, especially friends who share their food, and that’s exactly what we did. We ordered almost everything off the brunch menu (and the tacos off of another menu) to try and share and let me tell you – there are plenty of choices for everyone!

The Crab Eggs Benedict is exactly how you would imagine it to be, an old fashioned eggs benedict with a twist of added lump crab meat.

If you love lobster and you love waffles – I mean who doesn’t? – then this next dish is for you- the Lobster Waffle is a cornmeal waffle topped with fresh lobster and a lobster butter sauce.

Really hungry? Feeling like eggs and something a little more? May I suggest the Steak & Eggs with a side of home fries or toast. (And yes, you get all this for only $15!)

Ever consider a Taco Sunday? Tacos at Sign of the Whale come in orders of three with three options (the tacos are not on the brunch menu): Ahi Tuna, Buffalo chicken, and a fried “catch of the day.”

The Fried “catch of the day” also includes grilled pineapple, pickled red onion, and lime crema in a soft tortilla.

The Ahi Tuna is in a crispy wonton shell and topped with soy and apple slaw.

Looking for something simple off the brunch menu? You can’t go wrong with a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and Sign of the Whale’s version a little more to theirs making it a B.E.L.T. Sandwich – bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and cheese on Texas toast.

Last, but not least, sometimes you need an indulgence at brunch because isn’t that really the whole point of brunch besides having cocktails with breakfast?

If you feel the need to indulge your sweet tooth then try the Cookies and Cream Pancakes: buttermilk pancakes topped with crushed Oreos and an icing syrup that is sweet yet surprisingly light.

Not only is Brunch at the Sign of the Whale a lot of fun, but the food is also delicious with a menu that’s sure to please you and your brunch crew!
